Omega fatty acids, such as EPA and DHA, have been buzzwords in recent years. Multiple scientific studies indicate that there are many health benefits associated with omega-3 fatty acids. Large concentrations of these are found in fish, and fish oils have become common additives to pet foods these days. Unfortunately, it is difficult to regulate and assess the types and amounts of beneficial fatty acids that are added to pet foods (not omega-6, which can be pro-inflammatory). While the idea is nice, the quality can be all over the map!

One of the best supplements you can give to your pet is a high-quality, highly concentrated, clean omega fatty-acid. It has benefits ranging from improving joint health to supporting healthy gums, to helping maintain normal and healthy skin in a natural way. But it is critical that the supplement is of the highest quality, with the right fatty acids, and is tested frequently for any heavy metal or other contaminants. Studies have also shown that it takes about six times the recommended dose of omega fatty acids to exert a truly positive and noticeable health benefit. Because of this, feeding the appropriate amount of enriched food or giving all of those large capsules becomes nearly impossible!

The best supplement I have come across, to date, is a product called Mussel Dog®  (Antinol®). It is produced in highly controlled and super-clean aquatic farms in New Zealand. The batches are all checked, not spot-checked, for any contaminants. The composition is unlike any other: a synergistic combination of fatty acids that work together.

Mussel Dog® (Antinol®) not only stands out among omega supplements, it also tastes great, so even my little picky dog will eat it directly. I have had multiple clients report outstanding results with their dogs. Unlike the other fatty acid capsules, this product comes in small, highly concentrated capsules that are about one-fifth the size of the huge fish oil pills you are used to seeing. Because Mussel Dog® (Antinol®) is so concentrated and synergistic, you only need to use one to three capsules to see an effect.
